Gambler First Nation is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and culturally aware Child Development Worker/ Youth Mentor to join our team under the Jordan’s Principle Program. This role is crucial in promoting the well-being and development of Indigenous children and youth within our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personal Care Assistance:
    Support children with daily routines such as meals, hygiene practices (e.g., handwashing, toothbrushing), and toileting needs, while ensuring safety and encouraging independence.
  • Activity Planning and Implementation:
    Design and facilitate age-appropriate recreational and educational activities that support cognitive, motor, and social development. Promote participation in community events and outings, and help toddlers develop foundational skills for preschool readiness.
  • Emotional Support & Communication Development:
    Foster respectful behavior, cooperation, good manners, and essential life skills among children.
  • Behavioral Management:
    Identify and manage challenging behaviors using positive reinforcement and effective strategies.
  • Safety & Environment Maintenance:
    Maintain a clean, inclusive, and secure environment, prioritizing child safety at all times.
  • Team Collaboration:
    Work closely with other staff to enhance the delivery and effectiveness of youth programs.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    Accurately document children’s progress and behavior, and report to relevant staff and caregivers as needed.
  • Administrative Duties:
    Report directly to the Jordan's Principle Case Manager, follow the Gambler First Nation Administration Policy, and comply with Health Canada reporting standards and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children or youth in a caregiving, mentoring, or educational setting
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, values, and traditions
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain flexible, patient, and empathetic
  • Experience in behavior management and child development practices
  • Ability to drive, with a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work, is an asset.

Child Development Worker/ Youth Mentors are essential in supporting Indigenous children and youth through culturally respectful engagement and meaningful mentorship. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in our community and who can foster positive relationships with children, families, and stakeholders.
